Product Description
• Textile Industry: Used as a cleaning agent for machinery and as a solvent for certain fabric finishes.
• Paint & Varnish: The most common thinner for oil-based paints, enamels, and varnishes.
• Degreasing: Highly effective at dissolving oils, resins, and waxes from metal parts or tools.
• Dry Cleaning: Used in some industrial dry cleaning processes to remove tough, oil-soluble stains.
Fire Hazard: MTO is highly flammable with a flash point around 35°C.
• Action: Keep away from sparks, open flames, and hot surfaces. Use "No Smoking" signs in areas where MTO is stored or used.
• Inhalation: Breathing the vapors can cause dizziness, headaches, or nausea.
• Action: Use only in well-ventilated areas. If used in a closed cabin (like a spotting room), exhaust fans are mandatory.
• Skin Contact: It is a strong de-fatting agent. Prolonged contact will dry out skin, leading to cracks or dermatitis.
• Action: Wear Nitrile or PVC gloves. Do not use MTO to wash paint or oil off your bare hands.
• Ingestion: Highly toxic if swallowed.
• Action: If swallowed, do not induce vomiting (to avoid lung aspiration) and seek medical help immediately.
• Container Security: Always keep containers tightly closed when not in use. MTO evaporates quickly, which creates a fire-prone atmosphere.
• Temperature Control: Store in a cool, dry, and shaded area. Avoid direct sunlight, which can increase the internal pressure of drums or bottles.
• Static Grounding: When transferring large quantities (e.g., from a 200L drum to smaller cans), ensure the containers are grounded to prevent sparks from static electricity.
• Segregation: Store away from strong oxidizers (like bleaching powders or liquid chlorine) and acids.
• Spill Management: Keep sand or absorbent "spill kits" nearby. Never flush MTO spills down the drain, as it is harmful to the environment and can create explosive gases in the plumbing.
